What difference do you observe between Christians and non-Christians?

A Christian is someone who has been saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ and follows Jesus as Lord.

1. Christians are Children of God

1 John 3:1
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Everyone who trusts in Jesus, the Son of God, is loved by God and adopted, as God’s own children, through Jesus.

Ephesians 1:4-5 [4] even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love [5] he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will…

The Bible highlights radical changes that occur when someone becomes a Christians.

Acts 26:18 …to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Before → Christian (Bible)
  • Dead in sin → Alive in Christ (Ephesians 2:5)
  • Child of wrath → Child of God (Ephesians 2:3, John 1:12)
  • Guilty of sin → Forgiven and counted righteous (Romans 3:23, Colossians 1:14, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • Perishing → Saved to eternal life (Titus 3:3-4)
  • Darkness → Light (Ephesians 5:8)
  • Under God’s wrath → Loved by God (John 3:36, 1 Thessalonians 1:4)

2. Christians are New creations in Jesus

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

This is demonstrated through baptism.

Romans 6:3-4, 11 [3] Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? [4] We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life….[11] So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

3. Christians are Transformed by the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When someone become a Christian he receives the Holy Spirit of God, who comes and lives in us and changes our hearts to believe God, love God, and obey God.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 [26] And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. [27] And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

The Holy Spirit works in us to make us more like Jesus by helping us throw away sin and helping us to obey God. By our power we are not able to change but by the power of the Spirit we can live lives that bear good fruit.

Galatians 5:16-24 [16] But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. [17] For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. [19] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, [20] idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, [21] envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. [22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. [24] And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Christians are not saved by good works but saved in order to do good works.

Ephesians 2:8-10 [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, [9] not a result of works, so that no one may boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

The Christian life: Life in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.

This new life is available to you right now!

Jesus is ready to welcome you with open arms!

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my token is easy, and my burden is light.” — Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30)

The most important decision in your life is: Will you accept Jesus Christ?

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
