Small Group Lesson:
When were you baptized? Why did you decided to be baptized? How did you feel before and after your baptism? Share your story with the group.

1. Baptism celebrates and signifies the gospel story in our life--the death, burial, and resurrection to new life in Christ.

Romans 6:1-4  What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Q: As Christians we must continue to put sins to death in our life. What sinful habits are difficult for you to put to death?

Q: What is thoughts, passions, and actions are new in your life now that you are united with Christ?

2. Baptism celebrates and signifies the washing away of our sins.

Acts 22:12-16  “And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there, came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight.’ And at that very hour I received my sight and saw him. And he said, ‘The God of our fathers appointed you to know his will, to see the Righteous One and to hear a voice from his mouth; for you will be a witness for him to everyone of what you have seen and heard. And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’"

Q: God has washed away our sins and like Paul, made us a witness for him to everyone of what we have seen and heard. Often the areas of sin that God has washed pure in our life become areas we can testify to his work and help others find forgiveness and freedom from in Christ. What sins has God redeemed in you that you can help other find forgiveness and freedom from?

3. Baptism celebrates and signifies receiving the Holy Spirit and a regenerated heart.

Acts 2:38  And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Titus 3:4-7 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Q: Do you recognize the Holy Spirit working in your life? How?
